Project 1

Cytokinesis Tower

The Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio's project, "Cytokinesis," planned for Doha. My design intent is to create a façade that rotates according to altitude and azimuth angle of sun path diagram.

      





Form Creation

1.     I created a circle and made a series of circles using a curved scale using Graph Mapper. Then I used Evaluate Curve function and Shatter node to segment the curves.

       

 

   

2.     I used Loft to create outer and inner surfaces. Then I made perforated surfaces using Split Brep Multiple node.

      


  

3.     Then I joined the Items using Brep Join

I used Weaverbird’s Laplacian Smoothing to join the surfaces seamlessly. Then I used Triremesh to create equilateral triangles.

      


 

 

 

 

Outer Panels

4.     Then I converted the outer layer into sengemted 3-point or 4-point Mesh. I used Deconstruct Mesh to create mesh virtices and faces. Then I used Deconstruct face to create 4-corner indices. Then I used 4PointSurfaces to create smaller surfaces.

      


 

5.     Then the surfaces could be rotated using Azimuth and Altitude angle of Sunpath of that location. I used Ladybug pluggin for this purpose

       


     


 

Outer Facade

6.     I used Weaverbird’s Mesh window and Picture Frame to create the outer layer.

      


7.     I created floor plans by using SubDMesh and Splitting the curve. Then I used Boundary Surfaces node to create planar surface from curves.


8.     Then I got the final result.

     


9.     The user can change parameters in the green group on the left side.

      


 

10.  This is the curvature analysis of the form.

I used LadyBug plugin to get azimuth angle and altitude angle of a certain location. Here I picked a location in Texas. I used azimuth angle and altitude angle to determine the opening of the surface.     I divided the outer mesh into multiple surfaces. Then changed the surface openings according to my script. I picked the daytime hours in March to visualize the surfaces. The value of the angles is taken every hour.  We can get the 12 values of azimuth angle and altitude angle. If we look at the graph of azimuth angle and altitude angle, we will notice that altitude angle rises and declines but the azimuth angle increases.   ARCH 653 Project 2 Building Information Presidio Modelo, Cuba Former Prison,  Present Museum Image 1: Presidio Modelo   Parametric Façade: I created a parametric façade that changes the size of the openings according to the sun’s location. At first, I created a parametric adaptive panel family with a rectangular parametric opening in Revit without using Dynamo.     Image 2: Adaptive Panel I chose an element from the mass model to apply the adaptive panel. I used LunchBox package in Dynamo to divide and apply the panel. I created the surface normal for each segment face of the mass. I imported the adaptive component in project file to add it to Dynamo.
